Venice, Italy

Laura and I took a very scenic train ride from Rome to Venice and spent a couple days exploring the unique, beautiful city. Venice is a one-of-a-kind small city, surrounded by water with no cars on the land. (the one place in Europe you won’t almost get run over by a car!)

Venice Hits:

  • Gondola ride- this was the definite highlight of our trip! The ride is really relaxing and beautiful; you go through all the tiny canals and under all the arch bridges. The gondola ride is expensive but well worth the money.

  • St. Marks Campanile – this tower gave us the best sights to see in Venice, we could see the entire city out the window and look out over the water. It was very a cheap and efficient experience with one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen!

  • Ponte Di Rialto Bridge - this bridge looks out over the main canal in Venice where you can watch all the boats and gondola rides go by.

  • Walking the streets – one of the highlights in Venice was just walking around all the tiny streets. Turn off your GPS for one day and just let yourself get lost in all the alleyways because there are many beautiful stores, restaurants and gelato shops to visit!

Venice Misses:

  • Doge’s Palace – this was similar to a museum tour, but Laura and I did not research the history of the building before hand so we weren’t sure what the significance of the building was. If you are claustrophobic I highly recommend you don’t do this tour as it is extremely busy with not a lot of room to have your own space and you go through many tiny hallways in an organized line with no way to get out until the line is done.
