Rome, Italy

Laura and I met in Rome on the second week of our school break. The first week I spent the week in Rome with my family and Laura went on a Contiki trip that finished in Rome. Rome is a magnificent city with amazing food (carb overload) and great sights to see!

Rome Hits:

  • FOOD!– We ate pasta and pizza every single day because it is impossible to deny yourself these amazing dishes! The ingredients are always fresh and everything is homemade, making every meal taste great without making you feel too full. Out of every place I’ve been to, Rome definitely had my favourite food!

  • The Coliseum– this building is a must see in Rome as it holds so much history for the city. It is reasonably priced to go in however the line is extremely long. It is well worth the wait and you can go at whatever pace you like, whether that’s staying inside for as long as you like or just admiring the building quickly and moving onto the next sight.

  • The Trevi Fountain– a really cool sight to see firsthand. Since it was in so many movies growing up for me it felt very surreal to be standing in front of The Trevi Fountain.

  • Borghese Park– you can spend the day walking through this beautiful park, there are many day activities such as renting a canoe, visiting the zoo or going to the Borghese museum. It was very relaxing and peaceful to spend my last day in Rome in this park.

Rome Hits:

  • Street Vendors – there are many people who are trying to sell you stuff on the street and a lot of them will not leave you alone even if you politely say no, so just keep on walking away.

  • Be cautious of pick pockets– I always carried a fanny pack with me and never left anything in my pockets or laying on the table as it is very common for people to blindly robbed in Rome, there are many signs around the city reminding you to be aware of where your belongings are.
